FISH CANNOT MANUFACTURE FISH OIL – they eat smaller fish that eat algae rich in oils
Early salmon farmers found that without fish in their diet they did not contain salmon oil in their tissue. Moreover, they could not turn vegetable, seed or nut oils into fish oil and this applies to all fish (whereas we can turn these into dietary oils).
For some years our clinic (Fountaindale Clinic, in NSW Australia) have advocated use of essential vegetable oils, like flax-seed, and discouraged use of fish oils. We believed that fish oils could actually go rancid in a child with slow motility (bowel movement). Now we have pathology reports that proves this (Metametrix GIT Profile Jan 7 2011 – fish oil supplementing client with putrefactive fatty acids).
Unfortunately, the health industry although full of active truth, has more than its fair share of myths – some of them damaging and nearly always ‘sponsored’ by profiteering. This was exemplified by a fish oil company that early on wished to capture the then ‘new’ emphasis on fish oils (EPA, DHA) who advertised this untruth by advertising “the body cannot convert flax oil into fish oils”. This not true, provided sufficient plant based omega-3’s are present, which we obtain from diet and maybe helped by supplements (especially for ASD children) .
What they did not tell us is also more important that what they did tell us: fish oil omega-3’s are 25 times more sensitive to damage caused by heat, light and oxygen than the omega-6 vegetable oils (unrefined).
Our Clinic has provided essential low-cost flaxseed oil (refrigerated) for some years. The children have no problems. Also, spirulina is added (and there are easy ways to take it). Spirulina is a typical blue-green algae that can provide a valuable part of the daily essential oil intake (whereas chlorella, barley grass and wheat grass provide NIL). The fatty acids are essential to many body pathways and function, but especially for the brain, which is mostly made of fats.
Interesting note: A recent study shows a blend of fatty acids exuded by mammalian skin is distinctive, enabling animals with a keen sense of smell to differentiate individuals. So, mums and dads – if ‘Fido’ wont go near you, maybe you need spirulina or flaxseed oil!
Let us know your ASD stories – whether you are a practitioner or parent.
Knowledge is power. On behalf of ASD children throughout the world needlessly ‘addicted’ to drugs discover the way to cure regressive ASD – naturally. Without drugs.
